Spinal decompression cost starts with a clear number at Los Angeles Spinal Decompression®: your first DRX9000 treatment is $149 when you bring an approved MRI. Your full cost depends on how many treatments you need, which Dr. Karr decides after reviewing your imaging. Betty can walk you through exact pricing.
What You Pay First
The $149 covers your first DRX9000 treatment. Before that, Dr. Karr looks at your MRI to see whether decompression fits your condition. Because qualifying MRIs can vary, call Betty to confirm yours counts.
What Changes the Total
Several things move the final number. First, the number of treatments: one published case series used 20, two to three times per week. Next, your condition, since a herniated disc, a bulging disc, and sciatica can each call for a different plan. Finally, your coverage, which varies by plan.
Medicare and Insurance
Medicare does not cover spinal decompression. For other plans, coverage varies, so Betty verifies your benefits before your first visit. You can also ask about payment options, including CareCredit.
Cost Compared With Surgery
A 2020 analysis put the average single-level lumbar fusion near $22,890 (Beckerman et al., Global Spine Journal, as cited in the study below). Still, price isn't the only question. Some conditions truly need surgery, and decompression doesn't replace it in those cases.
Check the Research Before You Pay
In a 2025 case series of 13 patients, median pain fell 80% after 20 DRX9000 treatments (Connolly et al., Journal of Contemporary Chiropractic). A 2022 randomized trial of 60 people found decompression plus physical therapy beat therapy alone, although it used a different device (Amjad et al., BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders). However, the case series was small, had no control group, and received support from the DRX9000's maker, Excite Medical. So results vary.
